The Story behind the Story Stone

Hi, I'm Jacquelyn...

This part might be a little longer than the average “About” page, but stay with me. The origin of this company matters, because The Story Stone was not born from a trend or a business plan. It was born from a season of change.

For two decades post college, I built a career as a marketing technology consultant, traveling, strategizing, managing clients and teams, living out of airports and conference rooms.

At the same time, I was building something far more important: a family.

Three children. Three very different journeys.
My world revolved around client meetings and school drop-offs, late-night laundry and early morning flights. But my favorite seat was never on a plane...it was in the bleachers.

For 20 years, I was the sideline mom.
Cheering at performances. Sitting through tournaments. Traveling long weekends. Watching my kids step into the things they loved.

And I wouldn’t trade a second of it.

But seasons change.

One child is now engaged, beginning a life of her own.
Another is preparing to leave for basic training, stepping into a military career and answering a call to serve.

And the third is growing into a young lady faster than I imagined possible.

The calendar that once overflowed with games and recitals feels quieter now. The bleachers look different.

And in that quiet, I found space.

Space to ask: What lights me up in this next chapter?
Space to rediscover what has always been there.

The answer came in the form of a stone.

The first loose gemstone I ever purchased for myself is a 3.78ct cushion cut blue-green Tourmaline. It felt significant the moment I saw it.

Tourmaline is one of the most captivating gemstones in the world because it refuses to fit into a single box. It forms in nearly every color imaginable, vibrant pinks, fresh greens, golden ambers, and the deep blue-green shades that look like the ocean just before a storm.

Many tourmalines carry visible inclusions, natural threads, wisps, tiny internal landscapes gem lovers lovingly call jardin. Not flaws. Proof of the journey. Evidence of pressure, time, and transformation.

That’s part of why I love them so much.

Tourmaline symbolizes balance, protection, creativity, and personal growth, everything this season of my life requires. The inclusions remind me that the so-called imperfections in my own story, the messy seasons, the stretched moments, the in-between chapters, are not blemishes. They are texture. They are depth. They are what make the story real.

And that deep blue-green ocean color feels especially personal right now. Like standing at the shoreline of transition. The children who once needed me at home are stepping into lives of their own. It is a season of depth, movement, and becoming.

Life, like tourmaline, isn’t meant to be one solid color or one polished surface. It’s layered. Evolving. Meaningful.

The final picture you see above is the first piece I sketched for myself with that Tourmaline in mind — a piece to symbolize this exact transition. A reminder that I am not leaving something behind; I am becoming something new. It marks the journey, not just the milestone.

I am 50/50 right brain and left brain — equal parts analytical and creative. Gemstones are the perfect intersection of both. I can happily geek out over chemical composition, geological formation, and the ancient histories hidden beneath a stone’s surface. I’m fascinated by the pressure and time it takes to create something rare and enduring.

And then I get to sketch.
To design.
To shape something that did not exist before.

Gemstones are science formed by time.
They are beauty born from pressure.
They are history you can hold.

That duality — logic and imagination, structure and story — is what excites me most.

But even deeper than that is this: my love language is gift-giving. Not the transactional kind. The intentional kind. The kind that says, I see you. I know your story. This matters.

Creating The Story Stone allows me to bring all of it together — the science, the artistry, the symbolism, the heart.

This business was born out of transition, but it is fueled by purpose.

It’s about honoring chapters.
Celebrating milestones.
Marking engagements.
Honoring deployments.
Remembering what was.
Carrying forward what still is.

For years, I sat in the stands cheering on the stories unfolding around me.

Now, through The Story Stone, I get to help people wear theirs.
